Template:ImportTemplate:Infobox international football competition The 1998 FIFA World Cup was the sixteenth World Cup held in France, who were the eventual champions, thrashing Brazil 3-0 in the final. It was the first time France won the World Cup, they were the seventh out of eight teams to win it. Croatia finished in third place in their first World Cup since the break-up of Yugoslavia, and the Netherlands finished in fourth place.
